Rosemary is a perennial herb with evergreen needle-shaped leaves and colored flowers (pink, white, purple). It is a fragrant herb that is native to the Mediterranean region.

The leaves of this plant are similar to those of hemlock. These leaves are used as a herb, for flavoring different foods. Although native to the Mediterranean and Asia, this plant does well in cooler climates as well. Is is drought resistant and can survive without water for long periods of time. This plant flowers in spring and summer in cooler climates, but in warmer ones they can be in a constant state of bloom all year round.

Rosemary Medicinal Uses

Full of antioxidants and anti-inflammatory substances, this plant boosts the immune system and improves circulation. Rosemary is also used to improve digestion. Certain studies also show that because this plant increases blood flow, it can enhance memory and concentration.

In addition to the benefits mentioned above, this plant is also proven to offer neurological protection for the brain. It contains carnosic acid, a compound that prevents the damage done by free radicals in the brain. Due to the same compound, consuming this plant can also prevent aging in the brain, as discovered by researchers at Kyoto University.
