Rooibos, also known as red bush, is a member of the legume family of plants that grown in the South African habitat know as fynbos. The part of this plant that is used for its medicinal properties are its leaves, in a dried state.

This plant contains the bioflavonoids rutin and quercetin. These compounds block histamine release  of these compounds block the release of histamine (the chemical produced by the human body in response to allergens). It also contains aspalathin and nothofagin, chimical compounds with great anti-inflammatory properties perfectly suited for treating conditions like rosacea or acne. Tea made from it is caffeine-free and is great for people who are trying to limit their day-to-day caffeine intake. Also, the same tea is great for skin treatments and for combating allergy symptoms.
