Lemon balm is a perennial herbaceous plant from the mint family Laminaceae. It is native to central Europe, North Africa, central Asia, and the Mediterranean.
The leaves of this herb have a mild lemon scent, and are used for medicine. It is used in combination with other plants, for digestive problems, vomiting, stomach pain, menstrual cramps and toothaches. Extract derived from this plant is used for relieving anxiety, sleep problems and restlessness. Due to its anti-inflammatory properties, it is used in treating allergies, high blood pressure, rapid heartbeat and Graves’ disease. It can also be applied directly to the skin to soothe cold sores.
