Burdock is a plant native to Europe and Northern Asia, but also found in North America. It is a member of the daisy family, with large oval leaves, pink flowers and a long, hard, root.
It is widely used in traditional medicine as a diaphoretic, diuretic and blood purifying agent. In Europe, extract from the root of this plant is used as scalp treatment due to its high concentration of essential fatty acids and phytosterols. Another popular use for the root of this plant is acne treatment. The diced root is boiled in water, and the resulting extract is used on acne affected areas with great success in treating them.
